Funding available from PFCC to help support community safety projects across Essex

Voluntary and community safety groups from across Essex can apply for a funding boost from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex’s Community Safety Development Fund.

But hurry as there are just a few days to go before applications close on Wednesday, February 10th.

The £150,000 fund offers grants of up to £20,000 for community projects that help to prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Essex, as well as supporting vulnerable people.

Applications to the fund must demonstrate that they will make a positive impact on at least one of the Police and Crime Plan or Fire and Rescue Plan priorities.

These plans are available to view here.

A panel of independent local representatives assesses the bids. They ensure the projects reflect specific community priorities, work with other existing commissioned or grant-funded activity and provide good value for money for the taxpayer. In order to ensure the initiatives align with local priorities and existing activity, applicants also have to engage with their local Community Safety Partnerships.

Previous recipients of the grants have included Thurrock Coalition, North Avenue Youth Centre, Canvey Island Youth Project, SAVS- Southend, Epping Boxing Club and Braintree Youth Project.

Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Across Essex we have a huge number of voluntary and community groups helping to build safe and secure communities. Working within their communities and solving local problems, they make such a valuable contribution and deserve our support.

“Empowering local communities, supporting innovation and rewarding those groups that achieve practical results at a grass roots level is an important way to keep our county safe and our communities strong and resilient.”

He added: “I would like to encourage anybody who is making a difference in their communities and feel they could benefit from additional funding to apply , and I would like to thank them for the work they do to make our county a safer place, helping our most vulnerable people.”

Since 2016 the fund has given out £1,327,972 of funds to 138 groups.

This year to help support the county during the Coronavirus pandemic the PFCC made available £150,000 of funding and worked with the Essex Community Foundation to distribute these funds to 19 organisations who had been impacted by Coronavirus pandemic, such as a reduction of income or to support organisations to respond to an increase in demand for their services in order to continue to support vulnerable people.

Applications close on 10th February 2020. To find out more about the fund please visit:
