The Animal Welfare Scheme
Observing and reporting the conditions under which police dogs are trained, transported, deployed and cared for.
The primary function of the scheme is to protect police dogs. In so doing it provides Essex Police with an independent monitoring body that will advise and make recommendations about the care of animals. The visitors will also provide reassurance to the community.
The scheme is run by the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. Our team of Dog Welfare Visitors inspect the working conditions of the dogs and provide reports to the office. Their visits are unannounced on random days and times to ensure impartiality.
