ENGAGING
ESSEX

Congratulations and welcome back Prime Minister and thanks to the people of Essex for continuing to stay at home #EssexUnites

As well as the latest update from Roger Hirst, find out how you can have your say on community safety at one of our online public meetings coming up later this month.
Roger has a weekly briefing with Kit Malthouse MP, Minister for Policing and the Fire Service. Roger also receives regular updates from leaders from Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

A full transcript of the update is below.

Hello, I’m Roger Hirst your Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. I would like to start this week by welcoming our Prime Minister Boris Johnson back to work. It’s great to see that he has recovered from the Coronavirus and I would also like to congratulate him and Carrie on the birth of their new baby boy. I would also like to echo what he said on Monday. I know it is difficult to carry on with the lockdown, but we have to be strong and continue to save lives by staying at home. Essex is continuing to do the right thing. You might not be thinking that it is working but what we are doing is making a clear positive difference. It is why we have managed to get beyond the peak of new infections, and I would implore you all to keep going and encourage your family and friends to do the same. We need to do this and get used to it being the new normal, despite the restrictions placed on us, Coronavirus is going to be defeated. We need to go about our business.
This week, Jane Gardner and I, my deputy, were delighted to join a new public engagement forum on Zoom which was streamed on our Facebook page. We had some lively and constructive debate with partners across the county around community safety and particularly with Citizens Essex. You can watch the video of the meeting back on our Facebook page. It’s important for me to hear what you think about community safety matters at the moment and we have relaunched our public meetings as a result of that. They will be carried out online using Zoom and Facebook and we have them scheduled at the moment for Thurrock, Braintree and Colchester in the coming weeks. We appreciate that not everybody has access to social media, but we are having to use what methods we can in this situation. If you have a question or concern you can still contact us by email at [email protected] or call us and leave a message on 01245 291600 and we will come back to you.
Thanks again for everything you and your families are doing. We will get through this together.
Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.
