Volunteers with the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner visit fire station
Volunteers with the PFCC Essex visited Chelmsford Fire Station as part of an Essex County Fire and Rescue Service insight Day.
The volunteers all carry out duties for the PFCC Essex’s Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) Scheme, the Essex Restorative & Mediation Service (ERMS) and the Essex Animal Welfare Scheme (AWS).
After a chance to chat and get to know each other, the volunteers were welcomed by the Station Manager and Fire Investigator Nick Singleton, who took the volunteers on a tour of the station.
The group inspected the fire trucks and then the breathing apparatus chamber where the crews train for practice fire scenarios.
Following the tour, a presentation of the wide-ranging duties of Essex County Fire and Rescue took place before the volunteers enjoyed a lunch with station staff, before an afternoon session led by the PFCC’s Restorative & Mediation team and the Essex Independent Custody Visiting Scheme Manager.
After the event, a volunteer said: “I enjoyed the day. The morning was very interesting and informative. I have never toured a fire station before. The afternoon was good, informal team building in a fun way and a chance to catch up so thank you for organising it. Makes us feel part of the wider PFCC!”
