Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Everyday police officers place themselves in danger to protect the people of Essex. I am full of admiration for every single officer and was saddened to hear that last weekend a police officer was injured after she was struck by a car in Grays on Saturday 31 October. The officer sustained serious injuries but thankfully is recovering. Assaults on officers should not be tolerated. I have campaigned vigorously for changes to ensure that those who do harm officers whilst in the line of duty receive tougher sentences. A woman has been charged in relation to this incident and I cannot comment further whilst those court proceedings are active. I do wish the police officer well and hope she has a swift recovery. On behalf of the people of Essex, thank you for working to keep our county safe.”
