PFCC Roger HIrst and Ch Insp Michelle Sparks of Essex Police on ASB Awareness Week

PFCC Roger Hirst, is marking ASB Awareness Week, which runs this week from Monday 30th June to Sunday 6th July, by looking at recent success and future action to further drive down anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Essex.

The Commissioner spoke with Ch Insp Michelle Sparks, Essex Police district commander for Colchester, in a video you can watch here: PFCC and Ch Insp share plan to further reduce ASB

Since 2016 ASB incidents in Essex have reduced by more than two thirds.

In Essex the PFCC and Police have worked in partnership to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour by using data to identify ASB hotspots across the county before putting resources into those areas to drive down anti-social behaviour.

These resources include additional hi-visibility patrols from police and community safety partnerships, dedicated partnership days and nights of action and youth outreach in hotspots where youth ASB is prevalent.

Together with the PFCC Safer Streets programme, which funds community safety improvements to towns and villages across Essex by investing in CCTV, improved lighting and intervention, these programmes have had a great impact – anti-social behaviour incidents in Essex have reduced by 7% over the 12 months to the end of May 2025 and Colchester district has seen a reduction of 14.2% in ASB incidents over a similar period.
