Today Nick Alston was sworn- in as Essex’s new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC). The ceremony took place at the Chelmsford’s magistrate court and was attended by the Essex Police Chief Constable and council leaders. The PCC replaces the Essex police authority and will be responsible for setting priorities, the police budget and holding the Chief Constable to account. During the ceremony, Mr Alston said he “was delighted to be elected as Essex first Police and Crime Commissioner”. He said: “I intend to be a highly visible and vocal in leading the public debate about crime and policing.”
