Plans To Appoint A Deputy PCC

There has been a lot of press and parliamentary discussion recently about the make-up of Police and Crime Commissioner teams, and in particular about the appointment of a Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner (Deputy PCC). 

I have decided that I will be appointing a Deputy PCC to join my team, and that the appointment process will be open and competitive.  The Deputy PCC, when appointed, will have a crucial role in supporting me in working with the police, partner agencies and the public to continue to keep Essex a very safe county in which to live and work.

Our role includes holding the police to account on behalf of everyone in Essex, and it is crucial that both the police and the public have confidence that my staff and I are fit and proper people to fulfil this duty.   

Noone standing for election as a PCC may have a criminal record, and I have decided that this should also be the case for the Deputy PCC.

Further details of the role will be clearer when we publish the advertisement for the post in the near future, but I will be looking for a person of integrity, energy and insight to work with me as Deputy PCC.
