PFCC’s online youth event engages with hundreds across Essex
Hundreds of pupils from secondary schools in Essex tuned into the PFCC Live Access online event and questioned the Commissioner and representatives from the emergency services on how they are keeping them safe across the county.
The live sessions explored relevant topics such as the role of police and fire service in our communities, knife crime and water safety. The day finished with a Q and A with Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
Roger said: “The event has been exceptional, with more young people joining the sessions and taking part than was anticipated. Thank you to everyone who sent in some really thought provoking and challenging questions.
“The sessions dealt with really important topics and the feedback provided by the young people on these subjects will be key to informing the further work of my team, the police, fire services and our partners.”
The event was hosted by Jillo Ntim and Janelle Ndlovu, two members of the Young Essex Assembly. They both took turns in quizzing the service representatives on the questions being sent in by young people across Essex.
Jillo said: “My favourite thing that we did today was the knife crime topic, I am so passionate about that and the discussion was great. I learned so many things I didn’t even know about.”
Janelle said: “I really enjoyed the part on water safety. I found it very insightful and there were so many things I didn’t know, especially about the flags. I was really grateful to be able to experience this and learn all these new things. We also enjoyed being able to interview the Commissioner.”
The day ended with two prizes being awarded to students who sent in the most thought-provoking and challenging questions.
