Roger Hirst, PFCC for Essex, spoke at the Essex Police Towards Excellence conference on Tuesday 14th May.
The conference, hosted by Essex Police at the Community Stadium in Colchester, brought together all community partners involved in policing in Essex.
The day included an overview of progress in excellence in policing, an outline of using technology to better support victims of domestic violence and future strategies for protecting women and girls in Essex.
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) has been brought into stark focus in recent years and today we have discussed how we can help build that confidence back.
“A partnership approach is important and as PFCC we have supported initiatives such as the SOS Bus, Ask for Angela, Purple Flag and Best Bar None to help women feel safer in the night-time economy.
“Safer streets investments in CCTV, lighting and support groups will make our public spaces be and feel safer for women and girls.
“Work has been undertaken along with Community Safety Partnerships to help create safer public spaces, and use of the government’s Safer Streets has been instrumental in making local areas safer.
“Our local PFCC Safer Streets fund also helped target areas that have not yet accessed national Safer Streets grants. The fund has been allocated to make communities feel safer and is used to improve street lighting and CCTV, install safety measures and support awareness campaigns in key hotspots across Essex.”
