PCC speaks at Thurrock Youth Cabinet meeting

THE POLICE and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Nick Alston, was one of three guest speakers at the latest Thurrock Youth Cabinet meeting.

Mr Alston was joined by Carmel Littleton, Thurrock Council’s director for children’s services and Thurrock District Commander Chief Inspector Leigh Norris of Essex Police.

The PCC spoke about his priorities for Essex – such as ensuring policing meets local needs and ensuring Essex Police deliver effective policing as well as the importance of listening to the views of youngsters generally and young victims to ensure their needs are being met.

He also outlined work he and his staff are carrying out with young people including: the Children’s Takeover Day, which will see a young person shadow the PCC;the PCC youth conference and forum; and a recently produced film researching the views of young people in Essex around crime and policing which the Youth Cabinet watched.

Mr Alston said: “It is my job to ensure that all areas of the community, including young people, receive the best possible policing service.

“I am and will remain committed to working with young people through the PCC youth forum and conference and by engaging with youth groups and cabinets around the county to ensure that the voices of young people consistently inform all areas of my work.”

The meeting of the Thurrock Youth Cabinet took place on Wednesday November 5 at the Thurrock Borough Council offices in Grays.
