Opportunity for young people to ‘Take Over’ Essex Police and the PCC

Young people in Essex will have the chance to see the work of senior police officers and the PCC first hand as part of the Children’s Commissioner for England’s Take Over day initiative.

Take Over day is an opportunity for young people from any background in Essex to spend the day with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner and their team, or a senior leader in Essex Police. They will learn about the challenges of their roles, and play a part in helping them make decisions that will shape policing and community safety services in Essex. Young people will benefit from the opportunity to see the reality of being one of the most senior public servants in the county, whilst allowing senior leaders in Essex Police and the OPCC to gain a fresh perspective on the decisions they are making.

Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “If we are going to get things right for young people in this county, we need to work with them and listen to their ideas. We need young people to be demanding of us, and we need to create the space to listen to what they have to say. I’m delighted we’re involved in Take Over day this year, and am looking forward to learning from the young people who will be working with us.”

Details of how to get involved are as follows.  This opportunity is open to young people between 14 and 18 years old, and written permission from the school or college where the young person is enrolled, and from parents or guardians, must be submitted to organisers prior to commencement of the placement. Young people will be expected to make their own way to the placement location in Chelmsford, but expenses for public transport will be reimbursed. Dates are flexible and will be negotiated for each individual placement depending on the activities undertaken, but are likely to fall within the last week of November / first week in December.

If you are interested in spending time with either the PCC, DPCC or a senior leader within Essex Police, please email [email protected]   with the words ‘Take Over Day’ in the subject line of the email.

Your email should also briefly include:

– Why you want to participate in the Take Over day with the PCC / Essex Police?
– What you would like to learn from the experience?
– What you think senior leaders in the organisations can learn from you?

Please note opportunities are limited, so please email us as soon as possible if you are interested in taking part.

The closing deadline for expressions of interest is 5pm on Monday November 10, 2014.
