Essex PCC elected Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners

Police and Crime Commissioners gathered in Manchester for their annual general meeting on July 15 have elected Nick Alston as Chairman of the Board of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC).

The APCC provides a platform for Police and Crime Commissioners to come together, engage with stakeholders and seek collaborative solutions by identifying mutual priorities at a national level. All APCC services are overseen and directed by the Chairman and Board of Directors.

Nick Alston, Chairman of The APCC Board and PCC for Essex, said:

Nick Alston, PCC for Essex, with Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh

“I am delighted to be elected by my fellow Police and Crime Commissioners as the new Chair of the Board of the APCC.  Since the elections of November 2012, PCCs have begun to bring new democratic accountability to policing, leading work to improve and enhance the partnership working between police forces, councils, the NHS and the all-important voluntary sector.  If we are to make our communities even safer, we need to put victims of crime at the heart of all our work, ensuring that they have increasing confidence in reporting crime to police and that they know how to receive the support they need – whether they are victims of domestic abuse, burglary, assault or hate crime.

“I pay tribute to the excellent work undertaken by my predecessor, Tony Lloyd, and I hope to build on the foundations he has created.  These are important times for policing in our country.   PCCs are determined to help shape modern, efficient and professional policing for the next decade and beyond.  This will involve working closely with local partners in our own force area and, equally importantly, using our collective influence to shape national policy in the interests of our local communities.”
