Essex Audi delivers new FireCar for road safety partnership

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service’s Road Traffic Collision Reduction team have taken delivery of its new FireCar.

At the official hand over at Fire Service HQ at Kelvedon Park.

The keys to the new FireCar – an Audi S3 – were officially handed over by Darren Thompson, Head of Business at Essex Audi to Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley.  The handover was also attended by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex (PFCC) Roger Hirst, RTC Reduction Team Leader, Kevin Jenner, RTC & Motorcycle KSI Reduction Manager, Andy Strougler and Area Manager, Prevention, Protection and Response, Moira Bruin.

Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley said: “We’ve been in partnership with Essex Audi for several years now. This has allowed us to communicate road safety messages to a wide range of car enthusiasts, something I know our Road Traffic Collision Reduction team would find more challenging without the Audi FireCar’s support.

“This FireCar will be at events across the county over the coming months, and is a vital part of the team’s work to help keep Essex a safe place to live, work and travel. Thank you to Essex Audi for their continued support.”

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Head of Business at Essex Audi, Darren Thompson and Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley.

Roger Hirst, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “The contribution that the Essex Audi Group has made by donating this car cannot be understated. Having a vehicle like this really helps Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and the Safer Essex Roads Partnership engage and educate young drivers.

“Reducing the number of people who are killed or injured on the county’s roads is one of the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan as well as being high on the agenda of all the emergency services across the county. Reaching out to young people to educate them on good driving behaviour makes a huge difference and this car plays a major role in that work.”

FireCar is one of the ways that helps ECFRS to spread road safety messages and advice throughout the county. This year the car will be at fire station open days, cruiser events across the county and will also attend large gatherings of people with modified cars, as well as other events with young people.
