Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner candidate announced
Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, has announced Jane Gardner as his candidate for Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner.
Roger Hirst said: “To support my work as Police and Crime Commissioner, I need a strong team to help deliver the vision and priorities of the Police and Crime Plan for Essex. I am delighted that, following an open and transparent recruitment process, Jane Gardner has been selected as the prospective Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex. Her appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing of the Police and Crime Panel, which will take place on Monday July 25, 2016.”
Mr Hirst continued: “Jane is currently Head of Commissioning for Growing Essex Communities at the County Council, and has significant experience in helping to build safe communities. She will bring expertise, enthusiasm, and a knowledge of how to ensure partner agencies work even more closely together towards our common aim of delivering a safer Essex.
“Jane will also support the work of maintaining an effective and efficient police service, and meeting and engaging with the public of Essex to listen to their views and respond to their concerns.”
Jane Gardner said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as the prospective candidate for the position of Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex. I look forward to having the opportunity to work closely with local people, local communities and partner agencies to develop and deliver places where people feel safe, where they feel their community is strong and where they feel they contribute to identifying, developing and delivering those priorities important to them. Working alongside the wider team within the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, I will directly engage, influence and scrutinise to ensure the ambition of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex is delivered.
“I am a lifelong Essex resident and I love our diverse and beautiful county and all that it has to offer. I have worked in the public sector for 34 years in a variety of roles. I remain as passionate today as I did when I first joined about the need to offer excellence in the delivery of public services whilst balancing this with the need to ensure value for money in all we do. Having spent seven years volunteering as a Special Constable with Essex Police, something I remain immensely proud of, I will also bring to this role a direct understanding of the challenges faced in policing now and going forward.
“Throughout my career I have had the good fortune to work closely with colleagues in the voluntary and community sectors across Essex and have the utmost respect for the work that they do and the positive impacts that they have had and continue to have on so many lives. I look forward to my continued working relationship with this sector within this role.”
The meeting of the Police and Crime Panel is open to the public and will take place on Monday July 25, 2016, from 2:30pm to 5pm, in Committee Room 1, County Hall, Market Road, Chelmsford CM1 1QH
If confirmed, the Deputy PCC will receive a salary of £60,000 per annum.
