Basildon PCC roadshow hailed a success
Drug related crime, the future of police stations and officer visibility were just some of the issues raised by Basildon shoppers at the PCC’s latest public roadshow.
Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, met with Basildon residents and visitors to the town as he hosted the second of his new roadshows.
Dozens of shoppers at Basildon’s Eastgate Shopping Centre made the most of the opportunity to speak with Mr Alston on a range of police and crime-related matters. Several members of the public also stopped to share their positive experiences of dealing with Essex Police.
Mr Alston was also joined by local Police Community Support Officers who were also on hand to speak with people about local issues at the event held last Friday.
Speaking after the roadshow, Mr Alston said: “I am delighted the second roadshow in Basildon proved to be such a success, with many residents taking time out of their busy day to stop and speak to me with their concerns, comments and questions. It is always a pleasure to visit Basildon where people are welcoming and genuinely care about crime and policing in their community. I also would like to thank the staff and management of the Eastgate Shopping Centre who provided us with an ideal location from which to meet members of the public. It is testament to the community-spirit which the centre has consistently shown, particularly with its support of local police officers.”
The new roadshows are in support of Mr Alston’s regular programme of public meetings and aim to provide a more relaxed environment for people to raise concerns. They are also hosted in busy locations to offer people the opportunity to speak to their PCC when they are already out and about.
