A short film about the Jaywick drop-in centre
Just over a year ago, Kirsty Gibbons of Essex Offender Services approached the Office of the Police and Commissioner for seed funding to start an outreach and drop-in centre for ex-offenders in Jaywick. As well as helping to spark a sense of community, the project would provide support for ex-offenders to prepare for work interviews, to help with any medical issues and other challenges such as finding stable housing.
The proposal was discussed and developed in detail with the result that £12,000 from the PCC’s New Initiatives Fund was granted on the basis that after the first 12 months, the project became self-sustaining. This aim has been achieved.
During the first year of the project, the group has also raised over £1,000 for a local charity, giving something back to the community in which they live.
