£1million of PFCC Safer Streets funding helping to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour in Colchester
Crime and anti-social behaviour in Colchester is being tackled by £1million of PFCC Safer Streets funding granted since 2022.
A Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner spokesperson said: “Since 2022, every project bid meeting fund criteria received by the PFCC from the Colchester Community Safety Partnership (CSP) has been awarded Safer Streets funding. The Colchester Community Safety Partnership includes Colchester City Council, Essex Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Essex County Council, National Probation service and the NHS.
“This amounts to £1,064,048 in Safer Streets funding from the PFCC being awarded to Colchester since 2022, with most of the current projects being delivered into spring and summer of 2025.”
“On top of this Safer Streets funding over £136k has been granted to Colchester Community Safety Partnership (CSP) from the PFCC for ASB Hotspot Patrol funding, car park barriers and CCTV and almost £58k of £319,00 has been granted to local Colchester community safety projects from the PFCC’s Community Safety Development fund. A further £10k was awarded to Colchester CSP for its Against Modern Slavery Partnership work.”
Safer Streets funding has been used in Colchester for:

- Community safety nights of action to reduce violent crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB)
- A partnership portal business tool facilitating safety and ASB interventions
- Vulnerability training for businesses and transport providers
- A crime reduction programme
- The best bar none business scheme to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote women’s safety
- The ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign training for business to promote women’s safety
- The Colchester SOS bus
- A Colchester CSP Community Safety project officer to manage projects
- Mobile CCTV
- Pathway widening in Magnolia Fields, Colchester
- Community safety days of action in Colchester
- Girls with goals youth mentoring programme
- See you safer – Essex University event
- Way finder project
- Young female intervention programme
- Kicks Programme – inspire young people, sport, mentoring and personal development.
- Child exploitation training for night time economy (NTE) businesses.
- CARA – specialist counselling for victims of sexual violence in Mile End
- Street Warden, for patrols and proactive work in the Greenstead area of Colchester
The spokesman added: “For the latest PFCC Local Safer Streets funding tranche the bid for funding received from the Colchester CSP was for two CSAS accredited Street Wardens to patrol Colchester on Friday and Saturday nights. This bid was successful in securing funding.”
