Essex Police Challenge – Basildon

Nov 29 2016 - 19:30 - 21:30

Venue: Basildon Lower Academy

Address: Timberlog Close, Basildon, Essex, SS14 1UX

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex will be holding the Chief Constable publicly to account as he hosts an Essex Police Challenge event in Basildon.
At the meeting, taking place on Tuesday November 29, 2016, members of the public will be able to ask questions of Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh and Police and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst about crime, community safety and the policing of our county.

The two hour meeting, which takes place at Basildon Lower Academy, will concentrate on some of the priority areas of the new Police and Crime Plan for Essex:

– More local, visible, accessible policing
– Cracking down on anti-social behaviour
– Tackling gangs and organised crime
– Improve safety on our roads

There will be a demonstration from the Essex Police Mobile First project on how new technology will increase the amount of time officers can spend out and about, visible in communities.
There will be a section on burglary crime prevention and an overview of burglary investigations following recent crime series, with opportunities for questions from the public.
Finally, there will be a discussion of how we can ensure we all understand our responsibilities for driving safely, with a particular focus on the dangers of using mobile phones, speeding, drug and drink driving.
The event will include time for open questions and answers with the audience.

Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “The Essex Police Challenge event is an important and unique opportunity for the residents of Essex to put their questions directly to the Chief Constable and to me about their crime and policing concerns both locally in the Basildon area and across the county.
“The event is also part of my responsibility as Police and Crime Commissioner to hold the Chief Constable to account.
“I would encourage everyone to come along, ask your question and be part of the event.”
