Watch the Essex Police Challenge held in Brentwood on October 29, 2015

The Essex Police Challenge is a key part of how Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, holds Stephen Kavanagh, the Chief Constable of Essex, to account on behalf of the people of our county.

A video recording of the event held on October 29, 2015, at the Brentwood Theatre, divided into six sections, each twenty minutes long, can be viewed here.

The meeting began with an introduction from the PCC and Chief Constable. There were then presentations, with questions and answers from the audience, about:

– the financial challenges
– the policing context
– the Essex Police property estate
– improving contact between police and the public
– proposals for local and community policing

Although this was the shape of the meeting, members of the audience asked questions about each of the key subjects throughout the evening.

The slideshow used at the Essex Police Challenge, and providing some detailed context, can be read or downloaded here:

Some detailed question and answer sections can be seen at the following timecodes:

Section 2 begins with questions  from Cllr David Kendall about the financial and policing challenges and what they may mean for Brentwood.

Section 3 begins with questions from Cllr Bill Rose about Witham police station and the future of police stations.

Section 4 begins with questions about Great Dunmow police station, followed by a question about Epping police station.  At around 5 minutes, questions are asked about the PCC’s call for an increase of 50 pence per week on the policing portion of council tax.

Section 5 begins with questions about Neighbourhood Watch.

Section 6 begins with questions about disability hate crime.  At about 6 minutes in, there are questions about the cost of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Chief Officers, and their teams.  At around 11 and 18 minutes, there are questions about Remembrance events.
