Protecting People through Partnerships

Roger Hirst, The Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, welcomed over 200 partners from across Essex to the third annual PCC Conference yesterday. The conference brought together a wealth of ambassadors who support and help the people of Essex, all with the collective aim of finding ways to help keep people safe in our County.

Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “There are very few issues in society that can be solved by a single organisation. Whether it is Anti-Social Behaviour, Domestic Violence or Road Safety, to reduce harm, alter behaviour and create safe and secure communities, we must work together.

“This conference is a great opportunity to connect different agencies, charities and organisations to help build relationships and understanding and ultimately deliver tangible improvements for the people of Essex.”

The Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP, Minister of State for Policing and the Fire Service, delivered the keynote address.

“It was a pleasure to speak at the conference yesterday and to be in a room with so many committed people working to make Essex a better place to live, work and visit. Essex is already a leading example of emergency services collaboration, not least the ongoing consultation into the proposed joint governance of Essex Police and the County Fire and Rescue Service.

“Through the Policing and Crime Act 2017, the Government is enabling PCCs to take on responsibility for fire where there is a local case for it. This will bring real benefits to communities and see PCCs bringing that same level of accountability to the fire service as they do to policing. I look forward to seeing the results from the consultation in Essex and would encourage everybody to take the time to have their say.”

The conference focused on a wide range of specific issues which require a partnership approach, including: Violence Prevention, Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG), Data Sharing, Mental Health, Reducing Reoffending, Safer Essex Roads and Anti-Social behaviour.
