PCC Public Meeting Wickford
Residents from the Wickford area are invited to attend a public meeting being held by Police and Crime Commissioner, Roger Hirst, on July 12th at the Wick Community Centre, Silva Island Way, SS12 9NR Wickford, between 18.30 and 20.00pm.
Mr Hirst will be joined by Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Jane Gardner and Basildon District Commander, Chief Inspector Sam Smith who will provide updates on a range of police activities including tackling burglary, ASB, drugs and gang crime. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions and raise concerns about crime affecting them in their local area.
The Basildon district has seen a number of proactive engagement activities by police in recent months as they regularly liaise with local press and media to deliver crime prevention messages to the community and news of good work being undertaken.
The number of the public using Essex Community Messaging (ECM), a free online service that updates followers on local crime has increased to 2,278 members, and a target of 10,000 has been set through engagement initiatives.
Community engagement work in the district is further enhanced through an increased number of officers using Twitter accounts and social media to make themselves more accessible to the public. The Basildon Community Policing Team Facebook page has 3,165 followers. In addition, there are two very keen Active Citizens in Wickford who have set up a Crimewatch Wickford Facebook account which attracts significant interest and this recently won an award from the Police and Crime Commissioner.
